MATERIAL ALBEDO: Referring to the reflective properties of a material, high-albedo roof finishes simultaneously contribute to a comfortable indoor environment and to a building’s capacity to mitigate its contribution to the urban heat-island effect by redirecting sunlight, and thus heat, away from the building. This strategy leads to lower cooling loads in hot summer months and even increased durability.
